Prior to medical school, Dr. Lombardo had always been involved in music, theater and the arts. Her educational background began with a degree in Art from DePaul University in Chicago, IL followed by attending the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, IL. She continued her education at the University of Illinois at Chicago to obtain a minor in Chemistry to fulfill the requirements for attending medical school.
During clinical rotations in medical school, Dr. Lombardo discovered she had a unique opportunity to combine her new interest in medicine with her love for the arts. As a result, she chose to pursue a residency in General Surgery followed by a fellowship in Cosmetic Surgery. The Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship training covered all areas including: facial surgery, body and breast surgery, post-bariatric (weight loss) surgery and non-surgical treatments.
Today Dr. Lombardo is a successful Board Certified General Surgeon and a Cosmetic Surgeon. She has been practicing medicine the Palm Springs area since 2008 but opened her own practice, Lombardo Cosmetic Surgery, in 2009.
Body contouring is most often used after significant weight loss to reshape the body by removing excess sagging fat and skin. They are also popular “mommy makeover” procedures used by women to improve the appearance of the body after having children. These body lifts do more than just remove excess skin. They also help improve the shape of the underlying tissue, which results in a more natural appearance and smoother body contours.
Procedures may include any or all of the following:
Breast lift
Tummy tuck
Lower body lift
Medial thigh lift
Arm lift
Body Contouring Procedures
There are many procedures that fall under the umbrella of body contouring but all require anesthesia and incisions. Incisions are located strategically to minimize visible scarring or be hidden by clothing. The exact placement and size of your incisions will depend on the procedures you have done.
Once incisions have been made, the cosmetic surgeon can remove excess fat and skin and reshape the contours of the body to achieve the results you desire. Incisions are closed with sutures and wrapped tightly in medical gauze to help the skin adhere to your new shape.
Keep in mind that it may take several visits for all of your body contouring procedures to be completed.
Breast augmentation is one of our most popular cosmetic procedures. Also known as mammaplasty, breast enhancement or even a “boob job,” breast augmentation uses synthetic implants to increase the size and change the shape of the breasts. When performed in combination with a breast lift (mastopexy), the surgery can correct sagging breasts, giving the patient a fuller, more youthful look.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
In most cases, breast augmentation can be performed as an outpatient procedure. The breast surgery begins with general anesthesia. Once you have been sedated, incisions will be made. We will work on one breast and then the other. Incisions are located in inconspicuous areas to minimize visible scars. The most common incision is the periareolar, located on the underside of the areola.
Once the incisions have been made, the breast implants will be placed either under or over the pectoral muscle. Again, placement will be determined by the specifics of your procedure.
After the implants have been placed, the breast tissue is sutured closed and the incision site is closed with sutures and surgical tape.
Ideal Candidates For Breast Implants
Ideal candidates for breast surgery should be in good general health with fully developed breasts. Breast augmentation may be right for you if you:
Have lost a lot of weight and want to reduce sagging or excess breast skin.
Have unbalanced breasts where one is visibly larger than the other.
Want larger breasts.
Want to restore firmness after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Want to restore shape and volume to aging breasts.
Want to change the shape of your breasts.
Women with large and pendulous breasts often experience neck and back pain and discomfort due to the excess weight and strain their breasts put on these muscles. For some women, large breasts lead to self-consciousness and low self-esteem. Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, can alleviate these problems, resulting in smaller, firmer and perkier breasts.
Men, too, can benefit from male breast reduction surgery, particularly if they are suffering from Gynecomastia. This swelling of the breast tissue isn’t usually serious, but it can be embarrassing or even painful. Breast reduction surgery can remove the excess tissue causing the swelling and restore male breasts to their natural appearance.
The Reduction Mammoplasty Procedure
During breast reduction surgery excess fat, tissues and skin are removed from the breasts to make them smaller and more in proportion to the body. This is done under general anesthesia.
The necessary incisions include:
Around the areola
A vertical line running from the bottom of the areola to the crease underneath the breast
The natural curve of the breast crease
Once incisions have been made, fat, tissue and skin are removed. The areola and nipple are shifted higher on the breast and the areola may be reduced in size to complement the new breast size.
While some scarring is unavoidable, the incisions are made in ways that minimize the appearance of scars and allow for the most natural-looking results.
Buttocks augmentation, sometimes referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift, uses fat transfers and grafting or injections to boost your backside. These techniques can reshape the backside, producing a more youthful, uplifted appearance.
A Brazilian Butt Lift is a butt augmentation procedure that reshapes the buttocks through the use of fat injections. Fat is taken from other parts of your body using liposuction and is then processed for buttocks injections, which are made all over your backside. You will be able to see results immediately and will have a natural look and feel to your buttocks since you are using your own fat deposits. Results may fade over time as the fat is absorbed by your body or as you gain or lose weight.
Ideal Candidates For Butt Augmentation
Candidates for Brazilian butt lifts are generally dissatisfied with the appearance of their buttocks. Typically they:
Want fuller, more youthful buttocks
Feel that their backside is “too small”
Dislike the shape of their buttocks
Have an asymmetrical shape
Are in good health
Have realistic expectations.
Buttocks Augmentation Recovery
After the procedure, you will have some swelling and tenderness, but results will be noticeable immediately. You may experience some numbness as the area heals, but once swelling subsides, it will feel completely natural.
You’ll be given instructions on how to care for the incision sites and/or liposuction sites and may receive a prescription for pain relief or topical ointment to aid in healing. You will need to wear a support garment for 2-3 weeks after receiving buttocks implants to help the area conform to your new shape.
At first, you’ll need to refrain from sitting for prolonged periods of times. Sitting too much can damage the injected fat and prevent it from taking hold.
As we age, the eyelid skin stretches, muscles weaken and fat accumulates around the eyes causing bags below the eye and droopy eyelids above. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can fix these problems by tightening up or removing excess skin and fat round the eyelid. Double eyelid surgery fixes both the upper and lower eyelids at the same time.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Eyelid surgery requires anesthesia. Regardless of whether you are having an upper blepharoplasty or a lower blepharoplasty, your incisions will be placed in areas where they will be naturally concealed and leave minimal scars. For an upper eyelid lift, incisions are made in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. For under eye surgery, incisions can be made just below the lower lashes.
Through these incisions, excess fat, skin and tissues can be removed, repositioned or tightened. Incisions are closed with sutures. Your eyelids will be covered with lubricating ointment, cold compresses and gauze immediately after your eye lift surgery.
Ideal Candidates For Eyelid Surgery
Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are adults who have healthy facial tissues and muscles in and around the eyelids. The procedure can correct:
Drooping upper or lower eyelids.
Puffiness around the eyes.
Loose or sagging skin under and around the eyes.
Fine lines and wrinkles around the lower eye.
Under eye bags.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
During your recovery, you will need to apply topical medications to the eyelids and use cold compresses to minimize swelling. It is normal to experience some swelling and bruising around the eye but it will fade with time.
You might also have dry or irritated eyes for a few days after eye lift surgery. If this is troublesome ask your surgeon if you can use lubricating eye drops to minimize discomfort. You will be given specific instructions for caring for your eyes and should be able to go back to normal activities within 7-10 days. As your eyes heal, you will need to protect them from the sun. Be extra diligent about wearing sunglasses during this time.
A facelift, or Rhytidectomy, can minimize the signs of aging, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and creases, the sagging of the face and neck and loss of muscle tone in the lower part of the face. A lower facelift procedure is often done in conjunction with a neck lift and eyelid lift to provide the patient with a completely rejuvenated look. Facelifts do not change your features.
Facelift Procedures
There are different types of facelift procedures. The procedure you choose will be highly personal based on your desired outcome and your facial features.
Rhytidectomy is a traditional facelift where skin is removed and tissues are repositioned and tightened via incisions along the hairline. A fat transfer or fat injections may be used to sculpt the face. Most facelifts include a neck lift or a Platysmaplasty, which can improve the chin-neck angle. Submentoplasty is also used to rejuvenate the neck with or without a full facelift. Incisions for neck lifts are made under the chin. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions.
Non-surgical Facelift consists of a series of injections under the skin. Each area of focus may receive a different injection, depending on their anti-aging capabilities. Examples include BOTOX®, hyaluronic acid, Restylane® or JUVÉDERM®. There are no incisions.
Ideal Candidate For Facelift Surgery
Anyone who is bothered by visible signs of aging in the face or neck, is in good physical health and has one or more of the following conditions is a good candidate for a face or neck plastic surgery.
Midface sagging
Deep creases below the eyes or along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
Displaced fat
Jowls created by loss of muscle tone in the lower face
Double chin caused by loose skin and excess fat under the chin
Recovery After Facelift Surgery
After surgery you will have bandages and dressings to take care of. You may have drainage tubes for a day or two. Bruising and swelling is common with traditional face and neck lifts. Your activity will be restricted and you will need to keep your head elevated. Sutures will be removed 5-10 days after surgery. Full recovery can take as long as three weeks.
Lip augmentation is used to enhance lips that have thinned due to age or are naturally thin. The results are fuller, plumper lips that look completely natural. There are many different lip fillers used in lip augmentation procedures today. Collagen lip injection is the most familiar method but hyaluronic acid fillers are rising in popularity. Restylane®, Perlane, JUVÉDERM® are all viable options for lip enhancement. All of these injectable increase the volume of the lips and can reduce the appearance of upper lip wrinkles and “smoker’s lines.”
Liposuction, often referred to as liposculpture, is a procedure that slims and reshapes the body’s contours by removing excess fat. It has proven to be an effective cellulite removal technique and can be used on several areas of the body including the neck, chin, arms, stomach and abdomen, hips, thighs, flanks and buttocks. Liposuction has also been used successfully on calves, ankles and the back. The procedure works best on areas that have not responded to diet and exercise, helping to sculpt the body from within by removing stubborn fat deposits.
Facial fillers are a non-invasive treatment option that can plump thin lips, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, soften creases in the face and even improve the appearance of deep scars. These fillers are injected directly into the area needing attention.
These “BOTOX® specials” offer many of the same benefits as a traditional facelift without the recovery time or cost. It is for this reason that they are sometimes called “liquid facelifts.” They are especially effective at plumping up areas of the face and for wrinkle removal.
Injectable Fillers Procedure
Injectable fillers are one of the most straightforward cosmetic surgery procedures available. They can be performed on an outpatient basis and take as little as 15 minutes from start to finish.
While “collagen fillers” is a common phrase when referring to dermal fillers, there are many other types of facial fillers today. You and Dr. Lombardo will discuss your desired results and select the right filler for the job. Choices include:
Bellafill® “The 5 Year Filler” injections:
JUVÉDERM® injections
Restylane® injections
Sculptra® injections
BOTOX® injections
Calcium hydroxylapatite injections
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC filler
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC
Once you’ve settled on a dermal filler, the surgeon will map out where the injections will go using a marking pen on your face. The area will be cleaned and a topical numbing cream will be used to numb the area. The injections take just seconds to perform and multiple sites can be injected at the same appointment.

How LATISSE® Works.
LATISSE® makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is unknown, LATISSE® is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase, and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.

Chemical peels using trichloroacetic acid (TCA) are an effective sun damage and wrinkle reduction technique that works by removing the skin’s surface layer. Superficial peels act as a skin exfoliator and stimulate cell renewal and turnover.
By peeling away the top layer of skin, the appearance of dark spots such as age spots, sunspots, liver spots, as well as fine lines, blemishes, wrinkles and scars can all be reduced. The new skin that grows after the peel is tighter, fresher, smoother and more evenly toned. TCA chemical peels are a skin resurfacing technique that is tried and true and delivers noticeable results without surgery.
